A Twitter chat is like a meeting on Twitter; it has a specific discussion topic and a scheduled start time. Using the hashtag #MilCents at the end of each tweet, MFAN will ask questions to a group of financial experts.
When was the last time you took part in an MWR-sponsored activity? Have you checked out MWR rentals lately? What about an MWR-sponsored getaway? During this holiday season, take advantage of everything your MWR office has to offer.
Hosting a party?
Could you use additional tables or chairs? Check out your MWR. It often has affordable (or even free) rentals exclusively for military families.
Looking for some kid-friendly activities? Your MWR may have bounce houses, dunk tanks, or horseshoe and bocce ball sets (just to name a few) for rent.
Will you need to use outdoor space, even in cooler temperatures? No problem — many MWRs rent patio heaters.
MWR sponsors outings, activities, and excursions for military families. If you want to expand your horizons or meet new people, sign up! Opportunities vary by location — here’s a taste of what might be available near you:
Not into structured outings, but want to get out and explore? No problem! You can rent camping gear, bikes, canoes, surfboards, snowshoes, cross-country skis — the possibilities are endless.
Looking to burn off that turkey and cookies?
Stop by your installation’s fitness center or recreation center. Fitness centers are stocked with all types of equipment. And while you’re there, check out a class!
Need a change of scenery?
Visit your installation’s travel office — Leisure Travel Office (Army) or Information, Tickets & Travel (Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard) — for discounts and deals on both local attractions and those farther away (including travel). These offices often plan weekend excursions — organized getaways that offer a great way to explore new areas and meet new people. Just sign up, pack your bags, and let the trip coordinator take care of everything else.
Going out of town and looking for a place to stay? Consider military lodging, where you can often find accommodations — hotels, motels, RV parks, and campgrounds — for a fraction of the cost of their civilian counterparts. For something a little more exotic, the Armed Forces Recreation Center and U.S. Naval Joint Services Activity have hotels and resorts (at a military-friendly price) in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Hawaii and Florida (Walt Disney World).
Heading to a theme park? Your travel office can connect you with deals and discounts for military families.
