We’re making a difference for military families — join us!

The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is seeking a PT (20 hours/week) unpaid intern to assist with research focused on military families, service members, and veterans. The internship would run from January 2019 through April 2019.

MFAN is a nonprofit with a simple mission: connect military and veteran families to resources designed to serve them. What makes us unique is how we do it.

All of our efforts are grounded in research. We convene leaders and influencers in the military community to help us understand what military families need now, assist us in making families aware of the resources that are already out there, and support us in delivering solutions when there are gaps in support.

We conduct national surveys to evaluate the status of support programming among our population, and the effects of military service on family life. Recent work evaluated the effects of moving and decision-making behaviors in response to the advent of the Blended Retirement System. We have been invited to present our findings at the White House, the Pentagon, and on Capitol Hill.

We are looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, and who doesn’t miss a deadline. Someone who is a self-starter and equally comfortable working independently or with a team.

Tasks would include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Coding and analyzing qualitative data
  • Collaborating with the research director in program evaluation
  • Assisting in communicating research results in a variety of ways
  • Participating in weekly team calls

Minimum requirements:

  • Completion of any research methods coursework
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, and remain flexible as priorities appear
  • Knowledge of NVivo a plus (not required)
