The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is seeking a data analyst to join our Research and Program Evaluation team.  This position will analyze qualitative and quantitative research focused on military families, service members, and veterans. This is a full-time, remote employee position.  

 All of our efforts are grounded in research. We convene leaders and influencers in the military community to help us understand what military families need now, assist us in making families aware of the resources that are already out there, and support us in delivering solutions when there are gaps in support.  

 We conduct national research to evaluate the effects of military service on family life. We are also agile – we field studies quickly when we need answers. Recent work evaluated military families’ experiences living in privatized military housing, a study that was cited repeatedly by members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. We have been invited to present our findings at the White House, the Pentagon, and on Capitol Hill.  

 We are looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented and doesn’t miss a deadline. Someone who thinks criticallyis a self-starter, excels at time management, and is equally comfortable working independently or with a team.  

 Candidates must have previous work experience analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data sets and presenting findings in written reports.  

Equally important, MFAN is looking for a strategic, polished, professional, and outcomes-oriented individual who is ready to join a high-performing team.  


  • Primary responsibility: qualitative data analysis of large textual data sets across several projects 
  • The ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data in real-time and longitudinally 
  • Use Qualtrics software in analysis and reporting 
  • Produce reports describing research findings, including data visualization


  • A minimum of three years of professional research experience with experience in both qualitative and quantitative analysis in a professional setting 
  • Master’s degree 
  • A passion for understanding and supporting military families 
  • Highly organized critical thinker with superior attention to detail  
  • Ability to communicate data findings accurately, clearly, and concisely in writing

The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN), a national nonprofit that serves military and veteran families, is hiring a skilled, agile, detail-oriented professional to lead our Communications Department. A successful candidate will be a blend of visionary, strategist, project manager, and doer. This is a forward-facing role with growth potential.

MFAN is a fast-growing nonprofit. We are data-informed and impact-oriented. Our mission is to understand the needs of military and veteran families through our network and research and bring that information to leaders who can act on it, in the public and private sectors.

  • Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications strategy that will resonate with a variety of stakeholders including military families, government leadership, partners, and funders.
  • Create and manage activities to promote, enhance, and cultivate the MFAN brand
  • Build integrated campaigns alongside research and development for key events and fundraising opportunities.
  • Manage communications-focused contractors, including communications firm contractor and staff writer.
  • Develop content for the MFAN website, blog, and other communications channels.
  • Oversee the creation and updating of all communications and marketing materials.
  • Manage and moderate all social media channels and develop a plan to increase MFAN’s followers across platforms.
  • Work with contractors to manage and grow MFAN’s media relations to bring the experiences of military families to a broad audience.
  • Coordinate with the research team to develop talking points across the organization.
  • Stimulate dialogue and communication with all audiences.
  • Identify and evaluate new digital technologies and use web analytics tools to measure site traffic to better optimize marketing campaigns, email marketing, social media, and display and search advertising. Work with communications contractors to optimize the website and social media channels for SEO as well as usability.
  • Work closely with the management team to portray MFAN’s image and values through digital communications channels.
  • Provide regular reporting on the effectiveness of outreach/marketing strategies, develop recommendations (with associated budgeting) for optimization opportunities.
  • Coordinate and execute evaluations of digital activity and develops standards for these evaluations.
  • Stay current on national events to produce a relevant and timely response.
  • Develop and manage advisory board media training.


  • Strategic thinking– demonstrated strategic planning and execution, with the ability to move an idea into an actionable plan
  • Project management– proven experience as a program manager or other managerial position
  • Agility– this role requires someone who can adapt and pivot to meet the evolving needs of military families
  • Professionalism– ability to perform in a corporate, entrepreneurial environment and acclimate to the “MFAN way”
  • Cultural competency– understanding and/or willingness to learn the nuances of military life and clear strategies for delivering programs that are conducive to the nuances of military life
  • Writing – superior writing skills and the ability to write for multiple audiences and facilitate a quality control process
  • Polish– attention to detain in all written and verbal communications
  • Public speaking– strong presentation and communication skills
  • Self-management– Excellent organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related field required.
  • 5+ years’ progressive experience in a communications role.
  • Excellent grasp of social media and website metrics and best practices.
  • Superior writing skills.
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and technologies, website and SEO performance measurement tools, and WordPress. Google Analytics experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS a plus.
