Open Positions

The Military Family Advisory Network seeks a communications expert to lead MFAN’s marketing and communications efforts. A successful candidate will be polished and fluent in different types of communication and outreach including but not limited strategic communications planning, message development, online content creation, earned media, digital media, social media, peer-based/grassroots communications, email marketing, and cause marketing.

MFAN takes an integrated approach to our work, so a qualified candidate should be able to articulate how different communications tactics can work together to further MFAN’s mission, build organization awareness, and increase program use and engagement.


  • Create and manage activities to promote, enhance, and cultivate the MFAN brand
  • Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications strategies that will resonate with multiple target audiences
  • Plan and launch fundraising and awareness campaigns for the overarching organization
  • Develop content for the MFAN website, blog, and other communications channels
  • Create and update all communications and marketing materials
  • Cultivate relationships with media channels on MFAN’s behalf, and serve as the spokesperson for MFAN
  • Develop and manage the advisory board engagement plan, as well as their media training
  • Work with the research team to develop talking points for staff, Board members, and advisory board members for each research release
  • Plan and execute in person and online MFAN events including survey release events and the solutions summit
  • Work with MFAN leadership to plan presentation materials, briefings, and talking points to be used by the executive director
  • Manage relationship with all outside PR/marketing/communications vendors and consultants
  • Provide regular reporting on effectiveness of outreach/marketing strategies, develop recommendations (with associated budgeting) for optimization opportunities
  • Support grant writing and the development of digital advertising strategy
  • Supervise social media manager, outreach manager, and other manger-level employees as the team grows
  • Create campaign and department budgets


  • Understanding and appreciation for military life and content that is important to military families
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Superior quality control and attention to detail
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and technologies, website and SEO performance measurement tools, and WordPress
  • The ability to tell a story and move readers from awareness to action in written communications
  • Outreach, engagement, and facilitation experience with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience creating targeted content that generates measurable ROI
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

MFAN seeks an organized, strategic, program manager to lead our hallmark programs: MilCents, MilMap, and MilYou as well as MFAN’s coalition efforts. A successful candidate will have excellent project management skills, a background in the implementation of online programs, as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills. It is imperative that this person share MFAN’s collaborative approach to addressing the most pressing needs of families. We expect our director of programs to ask tough questions and consistently demonstrate a data-driven need and justification for programs or programmatic updates. We never reinvent the wheel or duplicate effort, so this person will build in regular check points with the research and program evaluation team to ensure our programs are meeting a demonstrated need and filling a gap.


  • Serve as a strategic and management lead for all MFAN programs
  • Work with the research and program evaluation team to report on programmatic impact
  • Collaborate with the communications team to build program awareness and use
  • Engage with program users online
  • Review, update, and enhance online programs
  • Identify outreach opportunities to build program use and awareness
  • Develop strategic plans (per program) and corresponding budgets
  • Support grant writing and reporting for programs, providing narrative content
  • Supervise program managers (to be hired)


  • Proven experience as a program manager or other managerial position
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and execution
  • Polish in all written and verbal communications
  • Facilitation experience and the ability to work with stakeholders to drive collaborative, meaningful impact
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media channels to deliver program content
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience overseeing programs, digital content experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with WordPress is preferred
