Data Analyst

The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is seeking a full-time data analyst to assist with qualitative and quantitative research focused on military families, service members, and veterans. This position is a remote opportunity.

MFAN is a nonprofit with a simple mission: connect military and veteran families to resources designed to serve them.

MFAN conducts national surveys to qualitatively evaluate the status of support programming and the effects of military service on family life. Data has been used to shape policies and programming for military and veteran families.

We are looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, and who doesn’t miss a deadline. Someone who is a self-starter excels at managing time and projects and is equally comfortable working independently or with a team.

The candidate must have previous experience analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data and presenting findings in written reports.

Main responsibilities:

  • Quickly and accurately code, analyze, and evaluate large qualitative data sets.
  • Analyze and evaluate quantitative data in mixed methods projects
  • Manage and implement a detailed project schedule and work plan both in support of a team
  • Use Qualtrics software in analysis and reporting
  • Produce reports and clearly and effectively communicate and visualize research findings
  • Provide updates on a consistent basis to the team and key partners about project adjustments and progress
  • Support relationships as a point of contact for key project partners and maintain alignment with project goals
  • Perform quality control on assigned tasks
  • Quickly adapt and adjust to scheduling and target changes to fit the needs of the project, team, and partner

Skills required:

  • Master’s degree or 5 years of relevant research experience
  • Previous experience with coding qualitative data, analyzing mixed methods data set, and communicating key themes in a professional setting
  • A passion for understanding and supporting military families
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Highly effective in written and verbal communication
  • Solution-oriented relationship manager with the ability to maintain organizational priorities
  • Proven self-starter with strong interpersonal and time management skills
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outline scope and timeline

Candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and work during MFAN’s core hours 8 am – 5 pm ET, Monday through Thursday, 8 am – 2 pm on Friday. Occasional weekend and after-hours work can be expected.  This position may be subject to travel as needed.

The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is seeking a full-time programs coordinator to assist with the implementation and execution of programs focused on military families, service members, and veterans. This position is a remote opportunity with an expectation of traveling roughly one weekend per month.

MFAN is a nonprofit with a simple mission: connect military and veteran families to resources designed to serve them.

In coordination with the programs manager, you will take what is lived by our advisors and learned through research and bring the right people and organizations together to respond. This role spans across the programs department. In this capacity, you will be responsible for executing project management plans that will enable MFAN to impact the lives of as many families as possible, beginning with the core area of food insecurity.

We are looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, and who doesn’t miss a deadline. Someone who is a self-starter excels at managing time and projects and is equally comfortable working independently or with a team.

The candidate must have previous experience in food distribution, food safety, and/or working at a food bank.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage the execution of MFAN’s food distribution events in Washington, Texas, Virginia, and North Carolina
  • Identify appropriate partners and vendors to support food distribution events
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and contracts are maintained for all vendors in accordance with MFAN policies
  • Coordinating the logistics for day-of execution of food distribution events on location
  • Support relationships as a point of contact for key event partners and maintain alignment with food distribution goals
  • Provide updates on a consistent basis to the team and key partners regarding food distribution events
  • Quickly adapt and adjust to scheduling and target changes to fit the needs of the event, program, team, and partner
  • Support existing and emerging programs as directed by the programs manager and director of programs
  • Lead project management activities across assigned programs
  • Identify opportunities to connect military families to resources offered by MFAN partners
  • Work with local partners to enable their support of military families in key areas of focus (e.g., food insecurity, housing, financial readiness)
  • Collaborate with external relations team to identify program participants who can tell the story of programmatic impact
  • Support other MFAN programs and team members on an as-needed basis
  • Adhere to MFAN branding and style guidelines as laid out in the employee handbook

Requirements:

  • The candidate must have previous experience in food distribution, food safety, and/or working at a foodbank
  • A passion for understanding and supporting military families
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Highly effective in written and verbal communication
  • Solution-oriented with the ability to maintain organizational priorities
  • Proven self-starter with strong interpersonal and time management skills
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outline scope and timeline
  • Project management experience preferred
  • This position must be able to lift more than 30 pounds without assistance and stand for 30 or more minutes at a time with limited breaks in between
  • Only candidates in the 48 contiguous states will be considered

Candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and access to a computer and high-speed internet,  and work during MFAN’s core hours 8 am – 5 pm ET, Monday through Thursday, 8 am – 2 pm on Friday. Occasional weekend and after-hours work will be expected.  This position is expected to travel 8-10 weekends per year.

Part-time Development Coordinator

The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is hiring a development coordinator to support its advancement efforts. The development coordinator will play a critical role in fundraising and stewardship, including but not limited to management of the donor digital database (CRM), acknowledgment and stewardship process, donor reporting, prospect research, and operational support.

MFAN is a nonprofit with a simple mission: connect military and veteran families to resources designed to serve them.   We are a mission-driven, fast-growing nonprofit that has become a leader in the military community. A successful candidate will be a strong team member of a remote environment, have a background in advancement operations and reporting, and have proven experience with Raiser’s Edge donor software.

Key responsibilities include:

Development and tracking of fundraising pipeline and calendar

  • Provides advanced administrative support of the fundraising pipeline and calendar.
  • Assists with department mailings and proofing of printed materials. Provides general support to the Director of External Relations as needed.
  • Pull, organize, and analyze donor lists for use in prospect and pipeline development.
  • Conduct research on all new donors to identify prospective mid-range and major donors as well as corporations and private foundations.

Management of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT software, MFAN’s donor database (CRM)

  • Manages and tracks donor and grant information in a timely fashion; gathers, coordinates, and manages information and details in Raisers Edge NXT.
  • Manages data entry for monetary and in-kind donations, grants, and other sources of funding.
  • Consistent tracking of activity in Raisers Edge NXT and regular review of activities, including the creation and analysis of monthly reports to assess efficacy and efficiency.
  • Serves as point person for Raiser’s Edge NXT. Responsible for maintenance of data records, and prospect reports. Process, organize, summarize, and analyzes data, reporting results using a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, or statistical software applications or program platforms.

Operationalization of MFAN’s stewardship of donors

  • Collaborate with Director of External Relations and Associate Director of Communications, to create customized proposals to provide meaningful giving opportunities for donors.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to identify and secure new donors, including staying up to date on local giving trends, charitable social events, and business trends as well as networking, utilizing prospecting research, and engaging current supporters to engage their networks.
  • Work with the Development team to review current and new donor data regularly to make strategic decisions regarding activities with portfolio donors.
  • Utilize fundraising tools (events, direct mail, marketing materials, website, digital campaigns, etc.) to engage and inspire donors to remain active supporters.
  • Generate and send acknowledgments for pledges, gifts, and payments.
  • Help coordinate individual appeals in print, email, website, and social media

Reporting

  • Plans and prepares weekly, periodic, and special reports. Gathers, tracks, and reports data (in requested format) on a variety of projects
  • Report preparation and tracking support require solid Excel and Data Management skills.
  • Reports–manages data production for donor reports, pledge reviews, pledge reminders, and matching gift programs, etc. Generates a variety of fundraising reports for internal benchmarks and publication. Compiles year-end data for fiscal and calendar year reports. Oversees, creates, and provides information and reports for fundraiser meetings, Campaign priorities, and gift opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years experience in development operations, or related field
  • Experience with management of donor database, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge highly preferred
  • Superior organizational skill and ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Project management experience
  • Remote work experience preferred

Director of Research and Program Evaluation

Direct supervisor: Vice president of research and program evaluation. In absence, the president and executive director 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, oversee, and guide the research strategy for the organization with an eye toward current and emerging support needs of military and veteran families.
  • Plan, execute and report on research efforts including Military Family Support Programming Survey and other interim studies
  • Lead MFAN’s program evaluation strategy, ensuring robust and effective data collection that meets the needs of the organization as a whole
  • Cultivate and manage research team, including the development of internal policies and procedures
  • Maintain rigorous research and evaluation ethics within all research and program evaluation projects, as well as throughout the organization and externally
  • Identify and leverage opportunities to present MFAN thought leadership via publications, opinion pieces, and speaking engagements
  • Inform the strategic planning across programs and throughout program development to ensure MFAN efforts are consistent and responsive to needs identified through research
  • Maintain oversight of all research software and instruments
  • Serve as a spokesperson for MFAN, regularly presenting research publicly
  • Foster partnerships with research funders and ensure responsive management of projects
  • Represent MFAN at meetings with MSOs/VSOs, stakeholders, and policymakers
  • Support the MFAN team by gathering and providing data required by funders and stakeholders
  • Advise on policy and evolving trends to the MFAN leadership team

Minimum experience and education requirements:

  • Ph.D. with at least three years of professional research experience
  • Experience leading the design and execution of at least three qualitative or mixed methods research projects.
  • Previous qualitative coding experience that also employed qualitative research coding software.
  • Expertise with Qualtrics.  Experience with Text iQ preferred.
  • Two years of experience supervising other researchers
  • Management of at least two research projects with a team of researchers
  • Authorship of three research reports
  • Minimum of two formal research presentations
  • Previous research of military or veteran families
