A Twitter chat is like a meeting on Twitter; it has a specific discussion topic and a scheduled start time. Using the hashtag #MilCents at the end of each tweet, MFAN will ask questions to a group of financial experts.
Heather Aliano is a proud Air Force spouse and director of communications at the Military Family Advisory Network. Heather has a passion for telling the story of military families to foster a better understanding of the challenges and triumphs these families face after almost two decades of war.
Heather holds a Master’s Degree in Political Management from the George Washington University and has worked in digital marketing and communications for a decade while navigating life as a military spouse. She’ll be the first to tell you that going to college and working while dealing with deployments, moves, and military life isn’t easy — but it is a worthwhile pursuit.
While stationed in Washington, D.C., she started working at national nonprofit serving military families as a member of their communications team. Being a part of an organization serving military families showed her that her family wasn’t alone. It was there that she discovered a love for the military support niche, nonprofits, research, advocacy, and grassroots organizing.
Heather has worked at the top level of political campaigns at both the state and federal level and enjoys mentoring women and military spouses as they grow their small businesses, run for office, and expand their careers. She cares deeply about supporting our troops abroad and their families on the homefront. She is especially interested in military spouse employment issues, mental health support and treatment, safe and healthy housing, family leave policies, and food insecurity.
Heather is currently living in the midwest with her family and is looking forward to receiving orders to a warmer location when the Air Force decides it’s time.
